What is a Messiah Sing-Along?
This is an event for anyone who loves to
sing or would enjoy listening to the music of Handel’s Messiah. Handel’s
Messiah is one of the most well known works of western sacred music.
Because of this familiarity, it is possible to gather singers from many
different backgrounds and create a performance of the most well known of
these choruses with no advanced preparation. If you add some first rate
soloists and musical accompaniment, you have the ultimate in participatory
classical music – the Messiah Sing-Along.
Who
sings?
The audience sings! Selected pieces of the Messiah will be
sung by everyone. Other pieces will by sung by soloists.
If I
want to sing, must I have sung the Messiah before or come to practices?
No, anyone can sing. There will be plenty of experienced singers who will
help guide each section.
Do I
have to sit in the correct section?
No, you are welcome to sit in any
section. However, sections will be marked.
I’m not
really a singer, can I come?
Yes, it is not necessary to sing like a
soloist. Please come! You can join in the singing or sit back and enjoy
the music.
Do we
stand to sing?
Singers will be asked to stand, as they are able,
during the choruses. The director will provide direction on when to sit or
stand.
Do we
sing every movement?
No, we sing only the selections listed in the
program.
Where do
we get musical scores?
You may bring your own scores or
purchase them at the door before the performance ($10 for G. Schirmer
edition). A limited number of scores will be available to borrow.
Do I
need to purchase a ticket ahead of time?
NO, this event is FREE.
There is no charge for admission.
This project is supported in part by a grant from Yamhill County Cultural
Coalition funded by the Oregon Cultural Trust, investing in Oregon's arts,
humanities and heritage.
A free will offering will be taken during
the event to support the good work of Faith in Action. This is a
major fundraising event for Faith in Action so your generous
contributions are appreciated.
What is Faith in Action?
Faith in
Action coordinates volunteers to help people who face challenges related
to health or aging.
What else happens
at the event?
You are
invited to a special holiday reception hosted by the Chehalem Cultural
Center after the concert in the Fellowship Hall. Refreshments will be
served.
