About Strong for Life
The program was
developed and evaluated by the Boston University Roybal Center with
support from the National Institute on Aging. Faith in Action in
Newberg was one of ten sites selected in the country to pilot the
program using volunteer trainers to coach participants. Strong for
Life was designed to improve strength, function, and balance in
older adults with and without physical disabilities/limitations.
Participants follow a 30-minute videotape and, as appropriate, use
therabands to individualize resistance and improve strength. Volunteer
trainers assist the older adult by helping them get started with the
exercise routine and monitoring ongoing participation.
