Volunteers are trained to respectfully and compassionately help older adults and children with special needs and their families.  Volunteers are the heart of Faith in Action. By sharing a few minutes a month or an hour or two each week, you assure the well-being of your neighbors.
 

Volunteers Opportunities (updated 1/24/12):

Volunteer Caregivers:

·        Housekeeping requests

o   A woman in her 90’s just moved into a mobile home in Newberg. She is looking for someone to come and help mop, vacuum, wipe kitchen and bathroom 2x month. Also possibly help with slowly unpacking.

o   A gentleman in his 70’s is looking for someone to come and help him 2x month or 1x week with dust, vacuum, help with dishes, clean bathroom. Looking for a volunteer who can tolerate smell of smoke (used to smoke in it).

o    A gentleman in his 80’s needs someone to clean 2x month, his house is really clean but bigger, just needs help vacuuming usually.

·        Install new furnace thermostat- A Newberg woman needs someone handy

·         Transportation- Help take an elderly person who is unable to drive themselves to doctor’s appointments or shopping. Flexible schedules.

·        Respite Care- A caregiver who takes care of her 80 year old aunt has asked if someone could sit with her aunt every Tuesday from 7:45-10:45am in Newberg (close to the senior center) starting in January 2012.

·        Respite Care- A son needs a break from caring from his dad. He would like to be able to go to the store, looking for help 1x week for a couple hours.

·        Telephone Reassurance- A woman’s children have moved out of the area and she would like someone to call her 1x week to check in on her.

Strong for Life:

·        Exercise Coach- Be a team leader in an exercise class and encourage participants, 1-3x week .

Family Friends:

·        Befriend a child with special needs or disability- mentor a child and support family members by Visit 1x week for a minimum of 9 months.
